This is what you call a kickstart: This is just
the second time that Stefanie and Fabian
Lassak present their wines and snap,
their estate has been nominated as one of three
candidates for the Newcomer of the Year title
(see page 22). The winemaking-couple farms
three hectares, predominantly on terraced, steep
slopes of Triassic limestone, with a focus on
Lemberger, Spätburgunder and Riesling. All the
wines have their very individual signature that
seamlessly combines substance, liveliness, tension
and fruit. Their Lemberger from the Hessigheimer
Steige counts among Württemberg‘s
best. Congratulations on the nomination!
92 2018 Hessigheim Riesling trocken
Balsamic nuances on the nose, reminiscent of a spice box. On
the palate there are grippy tannins, nutty notes followed by a
supple base, firm acidic backbone and minerality. Completely
coherent composed wine which combines fullness with
structure. Flawless craftsmanship. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
95 2018 Hessigheim Steige Lemberger tr.
Aromas of elderberry and plum jam, sour cherry juice, beetroot
and a hint of thyme. On the palate there is enormous extract,
but very finely-staged. Lots of texture, ripe acidity, intense
fruit accompaniment and great length. Has substance
for ten years of bottle ageing (or more). 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
94 2018 Spätburgunder trocken
Wild cherry on the nose, some chocolate, sultana nuances
and hints of southern Rhone, then also some herbal aromas.
On the palate supple and expansive, creamy background,
fine, elegant tannins, with well-preserved freshness. A multi-layered
wine with good length. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork,
92 2018 Lemberger trocken
Sweet cherry, peppery notes, chokeberry, bitter chocolate,
elderberry juice and Swabian garrigue nuances. Juicy on the
palate, medium-weight in fruit and extract, grainy, tight tannins
with well-integrated acidity. Ideal with grilled meat.

90 2018 Riesling trocken
A little wood and a lot of yeast, but also fruit scents. On the
palate silky and round, seamlessly-integrated phenolics
with bergamot and herbal notes, very harmonious, rounded
with a long finish. The warm vintage is hardly noticeable.
