The memorable label of this winery reminds
us of the fact that the monopole
site Batterieberg was blasted into the
rock with numerous loads of dynamite (a battery
of explosives filled with gunpowder) in the
middle of the 19th century. So you can imagine
that the vines are rooted in quite stony ground.
The other sites, however, possess excellent slate
terroir – above all the Zeppwingert, already famous
in Napoleon’s time. From two of its terraces
of more than 100-year-old, ungrafted
vines, estate director Gernot Kollmann crafts a
Réserve that is allowed to mature for two whole
years on its fine lees. Superb!

Riesling trocken
Brilliant golden yellow. Complex aroma of ripe apple, redcurrant
leaf, white peach and lemon sorbet. On the palate there is
a fine style in an ideal balance with depth and a long finish. On
the finish, herbal notes and an aroma of brioche.

Intense on the nose with wonderful depth. A scent of very
ripe pear, yellow apple, lemon zest. Fine acidity on the palate,
balanced by a fitting sweetness. Long finish with a medium
body, with an apparent finishing note of dried apricot.

Riesling Monopollage
Golden yellow in the glass. Very ripe on the nose with scents
of mandarine, grapefruit, lemon zest and very ripe lychee. On
the palate, aromas of lavender, lemon, ripe apricot and also
graphite nuances develop. Well supported by fine acidity
with a long finish. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Medium golden yellow. Complex nose with aromas of apricot,
grapefruit, lemon zest and notes of garrigue. On the palate
there is fine acidity and very good extract, everything
90 2019 »CAI« Riesling Kabinett trocken
Intense aroma of ripe yellow peach, lemon and pear. On the
palate, aromas of green apple, orange zest and lime with
lively acidity and a restrained sweetness. Pleasant light
Kabinett and yet a good finish. 11,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
