Falk Albrecht Reichsgraf von Plettenberg
is a Geisenheim graduate and the
fourth generation of his family to run
the family Weingut. It was in 1911 that his
grandfather married a Puricelli – this is how
the connection was made between old Westphalian
nobility and a rich family of industrialists
with substantial vineayard holdings on
the Nahe. Today’s wines are made with freshness
and approachability in mind. We liked the
serene Riesling from the Kreuznacher Narrenkappe
just a touch more than the equally impressive
dry Hinkelstein Auslese.
90 2019 Bad Kreuznach Hinkelstein
Riesling Auslese trocken
Sumptuous fruit on the nose of apricot, peach and red plum.
On the palate downright massive, but not overshooting the
mark in alcohol, taut acidity, good substance and mineral undertones.
A layer of viscosity in the long, fruit-driven finish.
13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
length, definitely very nice with a Bundt cake.
9 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
88 2019 »Blanc de Noir«
Spätburgunder trocken
89 2019 Winzenheim Rosenheck
Grauburgunder Spätlese trocken
A nutty varietal scent, sweet chestnut and some yeasty
notes. Slenderly-structured on the palate, substantial, even
with slight astringency on a smooth and fairly sweet background.
Slightly mineral. Medium density, can develop well.
12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
88 2019 Weissburgunder trocken
Closed, still some yeasty notes and everlasting flower nuances.
Juicy on the palate, silky, ripe acidity, well-balanced
and harmonious in a medium to light weight range with
slight sweetness on the finish. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
89 2019 Winzenheim Rosenheck
Gewürztraminer Auslese
Clear, medium yellow. On the nose rose petals, sultanas and
dried lemon peel. On the palate rose water, mild acidity, nice
flow, underlined with ripe citrus fruits. Good structure and
90 2018 Bad Kreuznach Narrenkappe
Riesling Spätlese trocken
Restrained aroma, some herbs, lime, yeast and peach
notes. On the palate there is good texture, silky phenolics
on a fresh, juicy base with delicate fruit sweetness. A very
well-balanced, finely-structured single-vineyard Riesling,
subtly mineral-tinged. 12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
