There are numerous sceptics who claim<br />

that organic farming is never going to<br />

be fully possible in the steep slopes of<br />

the Ahr. The Maibachfarm estate impressively<br />

proves them wrong. Of course, cultivating<br />

nine hectares of vineyards this way takes additional<br />

effort and is a considerable challenge.<br />

Such heroics demand immense respect, as does<br />

cellar master Alexander Weber’s performance.<br />

He forms part of that ambitious, young generation<br />

of Ahr winemakers. He reveals each<br />

site’s character with great precision. An estate<br />

whose work is groundbreaking.<br />

93 2017 »Glanzstück« Spätburgunder trocken<br />

Blackcurrant and redcurrant and cherry are joined by wood<br />

notes and a hint of lovage. The powerful stature reveals a<br />

fine acidity and sensitively-extracted tannins, good balance,<br />

power, suppleness. Shows the minerality of the Ahr with a<br />

Burgundian feel. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€<br />

Spätburgunder trocken<br />

Concentrated bouquet with lots of cassis and also black<br />

cherry, flanked by wood spice, coffee beans and dark chocolate;<br />

juicy and fleshy. On the palate there is sweet fruit, lots<br />

of substance, dark berry, ripe acidity and mineral spice.<br />

Spätburgunder trocken<br />

Wood spice on the nose, dark cherries and cassis, blood<br />

orange and spices, such as juniper berry. Herbal on the nose<br />

with ripe fruit, lots of spice and also punch in a powerful<br />

body. A fine acidic vein, cooked blackberry, lots of substance<br />

that is staged with much liveliness. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€<br />

Spätburgunder trocken<br />

Cherry, blackcurrant and redcurrant on the nose, with notes<br />

of toffee, smoke and roasted coffee followed by ground ginger,<br />

allspice and a hint of mint. The powerful body is interspersed<br />

with a fine vein of acidity, dark chocolate, dark berries<br />

and a mineral hue. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€<br />

90 2018 Spätburgunder trocken<br />

Lush bouquet with ripe cherries and redcurrants, wood<br />

spice and juniper berries. Powerfully built on the palate -<br />

there is strength, volume and spice. The ripe but vivid vein<br />

of acidity provides balance, a good portion of ripe tannins,<br />

full-bodied in the finish. A voluptuous wine.<br />
