There is much movement and dynamism
at Weingut Sauer. Last summer the construction
of a new winery building in
Nussdorf was started and Valentin, son of
Heiner Sauer, has by now joined the estate and
will shape its future. Heiner Sauer has farmed
his vineyards organically for 30 years, his
vines thus are in great balance and can deal
with the constantly changing conditions
brought on by climate change. The wines are
balanced – like the Weissburgunder “Holz und
Ton” – density, tension and freshness. Outstanding
range of wines!

Exciting, multi-layered nose of herbs and spices such as tarragon,
lemon balm, dried orange peel, white pepper and
meadow flowers. On the palate, full-bodied, the wood is very
well integrated with a delicate creaminess, not cloying, stimulating,
fresh. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€
palate; good freshness with juice and depth, fine straight
structure, honest restraint, very long finish. Beautiful!

Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Elegant, slight smoky nose of flint and graphite, also cassis
and green gooseberries. On the palate a fine balance between
juicy citrus acidity and fruit, clearly defined, refreshing
with a lovely mild finish. Beautiful!

Grünfränkisch trocken
Finely fragrant nose of tobacco and hay, candied lemon peel,
honeydew melon, almonds, even a little cinnamon, but not at
all Christmassy. Creamy and full bodied on the palate, yet
with plenty of juice, spice, animating freshness and a long,
pleasant finish. 14 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Spätburgunder trocken
Garnet red colour, fragrant berry nose, light graphite and
leather, along with undergrowth and dark chocolate. On the

Grauburgunder trocken
Delicate rose-golden colour in the glass. A fragrant nose of
melon and pumpkin, mirabelle plums and foliage. The palate
is finely textured with good acidity and restrained fruit,
a minerality and positive weightiness can already be felt.
