Johannes Kopp has set his goals single-mindedly:
the estate with its 30 hectares
of vineyards is in conversion to organic
viticulture. In September 2020 Kopp
started construction of a new winery building
with a modern wine shop, restaurant and a
barrique cellar open to visitors – all of that
with an unobstructed view of the Upper Rhine
plain. All these developments, however, should
not make us neglect the wines: The Spätburgunders
are striking and made to last, the Rieslings
are subtle and full of character, the Chardonnay
“Altenberg” is dense and phenolic.

Fremersberg Feigenwäldchen Riesling tr.
Individual nose with notes of apple peel, spicy wood and spices
like caraway and anise. Lean and tightly-built. On the palate
there is good extract, phenolic and mineral elements. Unconventional
and with character, good potential for further
development. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

The nose still bears witness to the wood ageing, some woody
perfume notes and toasted aromas, plus yellow fruit, quince
and some pumpkin. Strong and compact structure on the
palate, shows density and volume, but also phenolic and
mineral notes. Can increase further, good substance.

Spätburgunder trocken
Lots of Pinot Noir on the nose, cherry, fine toasted aromas,
some blood orange and forest nuances. Very good balance
on the palate, power and freshness gives harmony, finely-chiselled
acidity, demanding tannins that will further develop.

Feigenwäldchen Spätburgunder trocken
Cherry in the closed nose, smoke and mineral hints. Smooth
on the palate, fine juiciness, slenderly-built with good freshness
and finely-intergrated acidity, distinct minerality. Potential!
Only available in magnum and double magnum bottles.

Cherry and spices on the nose, herbs, raises expectations.
With clear fruit on the palate, lean, tight and compact,
seems natural and a little wild, also good density and distinctive,
grippy tannins. A lot of Pinot for the money and a
