he tasted the Engelstadter Riesling that
provides so much pleasure for a mere EUR
9.80 – and even the estate Riesling shows real
class. In any case, everything seems to make
sense at Weingut Zimmer-Mengel where Fabian
Mengel has taken over from his parents Andreas
and Stephanie Mengel who support him
in every way they can. The wines show varietal
typicity, character and poise, and are always
made with gastronomy in mind. The just-completed
conversion to organic farming will further
define the profile of this estate.

Fruity and inviting aromas of passion fruit, peach, herbs and
fine wood notes. A lean palate with traction and tension but
opens up to a more generous and spicy character with a
well-integrated acidity and a layer of phenolics. A lot of wine

Expressive scents of gooseberry, lychee and passion fruit.
Slender and straightforward on the palate, juicy with a bright

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blended Rosé, with aromas
of wild raspberry, blackcurrant, yellow fruit and peach. Soft,
fruity and light-hearted on the palate with a mild acid structure,
fine tannins provide character, salmon-coloured

Portugieser trocken
Spicy, slightly balsamic nose, cherry and mulberry, wood
notes and smoke, fresh bay leaf, somewhat ethereal. Supple
on the palate there is vivid acidity, firm structure, stays focused,
some bitter chocolate on the edge, elegant and with

Fruity and spicy nose of apricot, peach, leafy greens and
green apple. Slender and straightforward on the palate,
with good freshness and lively acidity. Clear fruit, finely-integrated
