Jürgen Hofmann has found his style. His
“Appenheim School of Thought” which
he founded and which stands for taut
concentration with a touch of phenolics, is a
little more approachable now. Yet, his terroir
wines, like the firm Hundertgulden Riesling or
the naturally slightly more full-bodied Ölberg
from the Roter Hang, or Red Slope, remain
clearly recognisable. His Weissburgunder, already
made in a clearly gastronomic fashion,
are also worth a mention. His “Urmeer” is an
absolutely kitsch-free zone and captures us
with its fine herbal savouriness.
