wine scene, by reds that come
across as liquid jam and whites that
taste like sugary water – and if they have not
yet stopped being curious, are still open-minded,
have found the right address here. If you
love liveliness in your wine, Weingut Siegloch
is for you. Brothers David and Markus
Siegloch who have run their parental estate
since 2014, offer wines that are made “free
from boundaries and rules.” There isn’t a Romanée-Conti
equivalent among them yet, but
what you can expect is colourful, diverse, exciting
and full-of-character wines. Way to go!
92 2018 »Sandhase« Riesling Landwein tr.
Strong yellow hues, visibly unfiltered. Intense natural wine
aroma, cider and cider apple peel notes with a whiff of straw.
A similar intensity on the palate with ripe and apricot fruit
core, perfectly dry with a savoury acidity. Phenolic, spicy,
bold. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€

90 2018 »Vogelfrei« Weissburgunder
Landwein trocken
A clearer colour than the Riesling. More wood influence, only
restrained pear-like fruit and floral notes. Some phenolics,
otherwise the more conventional wine when compared to
the skin-fermented Riesling. Juicy, slightly oxidative, spicy.

89 2019 »Booom« Syrah Rosé Landwein tr.
Should be shaken before opening, before it flows like red
cherry juice into the glass. Nose of sweet raspberry, paired
with slightly-fermented yeasty notes. Clearly effervescent
on the palate with red-fruited delicate flavours. Unsulphured,
clean, enjoyable. 11,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
90 2017 »Vogelfrei R« Lemberger Landwein tr.
Elderberry jam, peony and ivy on the nose. Enormously spicy
on the palate, elderberry, sloe and dark fruit nuances. Certainly
the most closed, serious and indeed the most conventional
wine of the Siegloch brothers. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Landwein trocken
The analytic details read like a warning, 10 percent alcohol
by volume, completely dry, unfiltered, unsulphured. Elderflower
and juniper scents still fairly restrained. On the palate,
there is an immediate palatal reflex - tart, cool, wonderfully
