Dr. Rainer Scholz and Andi Knauss are
evidently stepping up a gear – and we
can taste that. Not only did the bottles
come with a new, chic design, the wines also
seem to have a sharper focus. The 2018 Spätburgunder
comes with textured depth and
such intensity, freshness and fruit the like of
which we have not tasted before. The Riesling
comes with a slight touch of wood, silky flow
and a decidedly-adult structure – while
the densely-textured, almost Riesling-like
Müller-Thurgau is an advertisement for the
variety!

Tangerine and peppery notes, lime and some herbaceous
aromas. Supple onset on the palate, ripe but firm, long-lasting
acidity, round flow in the mid-palate, emerging spiciness
with almost caraway-like flavours on the finish. A pointed
wine. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
90 2018 »Schillerwein« trocken
Salmon pink in appearance. Intense apple and sweetened red
berry scents. Supple and soft on the palate, rounded fullness,
delicate sweetness, cultivated acidity, medium-weight
fruit and good substance. Nuances of rosehip tea, black tea
and tart apple. A drinking pleasure. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
94 2018 Spätburgunder trocken
Sour cherry juice, iron, cherry stones, subtle wood scents (coconut,
caramel); extremely radiant fruit. On the palate there
is density, grainy and artisanal tannins with a plump and
smooth background. Juicy elegance, a Pinot full of pure delicacy.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2018 Regent trocken
Violets, blueberry and elderberry aromas. On the palate
there is a rich but also mellow extract, very softly-grounded,
slowly-increasing acidity on the palate, discreetly accompanied
by tactile minerality. The juicy fruit lingers on for a long
time. Very good potential! 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2018 Müller-Thurgau trocken
On the nose, the Riesling genes of the variety come to the
fore: citrus-fresh with only a slight Muscat accent. Smooth
onset on the palate, great volume, lively acidity, a creamy
packed layer of the finest phenolics with some wood barrel
influence. A refined wine. 12 Vol.-%, cork, €€
