Looking at Knut Fader and his Kastanienhof
estate, we think that this may
be the time to sing the praises of
Gewürztraminer. In the previous year, the
wine became our Falstaff-Tip; this year, the
Gewürztraminer “Réserve” 2019 from the
Rhodter Rosengarten site received a score of
92 points and is positioned at the top of a very
balanced and attractive range of wines. How
often is a Gewürztraminer described as “a
most animating wine with a long echo”, as one
of our tasters noted. And animating is the
correct term, as the wine also inspires culinary
fantasies.

Fresh and clear on the nose; scents of lemon, lime, green apple
and pineapple. On the palate pear, apricot and lemon zest
join in, accompanied by fine acidity. Medium body - a wine

Pale golden yellow with aromas of white peach, ripe pear,
lemon and hazelnut. At least medium bodied on the palate,
melon and orange zest flavours are supported by a good acid

Chardonnay trocken
Golden yellow in colour. Intense aromas; smoke, ripe yellow
apple, clove and pineapple, complemented on the palate by
flavours including vanilla, blackcurrant leaf and lemon peel
all carried by a lively acidity and a good finish.

Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Medium lemon yellow. A fragrance of apricot, ripe apple and
lemon. On the palate typical grape variety aromas of gooseberry,
grapefruit, honeydew melon and young green pepper.
A good acid structure for a medium-bodied wine.

A fine varietal aroma of rosebud petals, lemon peel, grapefruit
and lychee in the glass. On the palate very pleasing
acidity balances these complex aromas, complemented by
tangerine and pear compote flavours. A very animated
