Great news: Under new ownership but
still going in the same direction, there is
renewed energy at the Deutzerhof. It’s
Spätburgunder from the Altenahrer Eck site is
downright majestic, and its counterpart from
the Neuenahrer Kirchtürmchen is scented and
spicy. The word on the street is that new owner
Jürgen Doetsch is investing heavily – which just
adds to the experience and expertise of Hans-
Jörg Lüchau and his team. From what we can
tell, all the sights are set for this renowned estate
in Mayschoss to return to its former glory of the
1990s and 2000s. If they can keep this pace a
fourth Falstaff star is just a matter of time.

Pinot-like aroma of kirsch and tree resin, very restrained use
of wood. On the palate there is a supple, even slightly viscous
base and plentiful dry, grainy tannins i, with a penetrating
minerality that lasts in the wine for a long time.

Low sulphur, hints of Marsala and Boskop apple over the cherry-like
fruit aromas. In the glass, the fruit revitalises and refreshes
rather than becoming more oxidative. Creamy on the
palate, with very dense, grainy tannins, powerful minerality,
firm acidity. Experimental and exciting. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€

Elderberry and beeswax, and the gentle essence of fir tree
honey, gingerbread-like aromas and wood spice. On the palate,
lots of fine texture, mellow, grainy, ripe but sufficiently
supporting acidity, clear fruit, integrated alcohol. A mouthful
of Pinot with the best perspective. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Lush aroma of plum and plum jam, creamy base on the palate,
mellow tannic core, ripe acidity with perceptible minerality.
A Frühburgunder that displays the depth of the
plumpness of the variety, with lots of fruit and juiciness in
