This is only the third vintage that Bernd and
Annette Meckel have presented for tasting
and each year their wines show more character
and courage: winemaker Bernd Meckel
largely avoids any mellowing residual sweetness
while maturation in small barrels lends a firm
structure to the wines. They are slender but bundled
and come in an uncompromisingly purist style
– like the Riesling from the Herrenberg site, for instance,
or the Müller-Thurgau from the Liebesbrunnen
site. With a little air, the wines show their
full stature. The red wines, like the Pinot from the
Kieselberg, show substance and feeling. You will
have to look elsewhere for mainstream. Well done!

Riesling trocken
Still quite closed nose with yeast and herbs, smoke and
toasted aromas. Taut, lean with a compact build. Uncompromising
and emphatically dry, fine lemon juice on the palate.
Unusual Riesling that avoids the mainstream and shows its

St. Laurent trocken
Plum on the nose, ripe black cherry, also blackberry, dark
chocolate and strong wood spice. Powerfully built on the palate
with a natural character and no supporting sweetness,
the wood is tied in with lots of spice. Shows its pure character
and nature. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Ripe apple and also a fine cider notes on the nose, citrus fruit
and stone fruits such as apricot and mirabelle plum, white
flowers, blade of mace. Well balanced on the palate with
charming fruit and balanced sweetness; finely rounded, but
with a slight and distinctive astringency – harmonious.

Spätburgunder trocken
Elegant aromas of red cherry, redcurrants, some orange peel
and fine smoke. Calm on the palate with ripe, flowing acidity
with tannins that are ripe and solid, good balance. A grownup
Pinot Noir with structure and feeling. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Müller-Thurgau trocken
Müller-Thurgau endowed with a firm structure via ageing
in small wooden barrels, slenderly bundled and dry, purist
and yet also generous with ripe apple, citrus fruit and
herbs. Straightforward acidity, good extract, slender format
with plenty of stuffing. 13 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
