Things are happening at this renowned<br />

Weingut in Bad Dürkheim: the wines<br />

clearly show that the team surrounding<br />

Johann Fitz does not miss a beat. New construction<br />

is ahead for a cellar that will make<br />

pumps largely redundant and enable far more<br />

gentler handling of the grapes. The upward<br />

trajectory is already evident. Not only can we<br />

taste the first class fruit that went into the Riesling<br />

from the Michelsberg site, we also taste<br />

the intuition that went into making it. We are<br />

curious to see what will come out of the new<br />

cellar.<br />

Some wood and an almost Burgundy-like fruit: more berry<br />

than stone fruit or citrus. On the palate there’s a noble suppleness,<br />

wood flavours supported within the phenolic structure,<br />

good density. A touch of sweetness ensures complete<br />

harmony. 13 Vol.-%. cork<br />

Wood initially, then very floral - jasmine, rose; also basil and<br />

rosemary blossom. Plump with a soft opening and smooth<br />

sweetness. Moderately fine phenolics are becalmed by<br />

creaminess and mildness. Refined acidity, long finish.<br />

Fresh fragrant nose; white flowers, burnt sugar, white currant,<br />

grass clippings, hay. On the palate fragrant and textural;<br />

juicy, beautifully fine mousse, soft mouthfeel, cheerfully<br />

elegant and vinous! 11,5 Vol.-%. cork<br />

Gewürztraminer Spätlese<br />

Ripe and very clear: rose, lychee, smoky tones. You can literally<br />

see the ripe berries in front of you. On the palate, a supple<br />

attack, poised sweetness, fine yet playful acidity, but very<br />

fresh for all its roundness and fullness. Stylish and elegant!<br />

Smoky, terpene-borne spice, grapefruit. Quite round and<br />

soft in the attack, but also fresh with fine acidity, elegant<br />

rounding on the mid-palate before spicy layers unfold<br />

again. A very delicate, light-hearted yet multifaceted Riesling.<br />
