For five years now Daniel Then has been
future-proofing this estate in Sommerach.
The vineyards are in conversion to
organic farming. “For us, this represents the
future. Out Triassic limestone soils are the basis
of our wines. We want to preserve them and
be able to hand them to the next generation in
a vital and healthy state,” the winemaker says.
He presented a thoroughly accomplished
range of wines: all wines show juicy power at
just the right juncture, the Silvaner “Ovum”,
fermented in a concrete egg, also shows density
and minerality. The playful Scheurebe is
most animating. Compliments.

Silvaner matured in a concrete egg; fine yeasty spice, apples,
caraway, yellow fruit and herbs on the nose. The palate is
clearly composed with measured power, juice and fine minerality,
some phenolic astringency on the finish. Calm and

Ripe red apple on the nose, herbs, pear skin, spice and notes
of yeast. Well-built on the palate with decent extract, powerful
and yet with clearly defined strength, dry, also some phenolic
bitterness; juicy with spice and mineral undertones.

Silvaner Kabinett trocken
Apple and apple peel on the nose, meadow herbs and a little
hint of chocolate maltesers. Full-bodied and spicy on the palate,
clear and slender, showing good density for a Kabinett,
juicy, texture and a clear mineral base from the limestone.

Juniper berry on the nose, toasted aromas and smoke, dark
fruit, mulberry and cherry, spices with hints of curry powder.
On the palate there is good substance and structure, it unravels
into a wide body, soft and spicy, the tannins are present
and smooth. It has potential. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Smells of ripe gooseberries and mirabelle plums, notes of
fine herbs. Juicy on the palate with a clear expression and
good freshness, animating acidity, nice spiciness especially
that of white pepper. A pleasurable Scheurebe, good as
