This tiny estate, with its cellar in Geisenheim
and its vineyards in Lorch and Assmannshausen
sent us excerpts of its
past oeuvre – some of which are still available
– for tasting. Those who don’t believe that German
Spätburgunder can age, would do well to
taste the 2013 vintage from the Presenteberg
site (“Present”). It is fascinating what combination
of depth and elegance Spätburgunder
grown on slate can attain if they are made according
to the criteria of minimal winemaking.

Mineral notes to the fore on the nose, flinty and slate-spicy,
plus small red berries, chocolate and juniper. On the palate
there is rich, but fine tannin, a lot of suppleness, lively acidity.
Absolutely exceptional presence and length. Great!

Cranberry, smoky wood and minty tones. Red and black currant.
When allowed to breathe, more and more herbal spice
apparent. On the palate, a union of contrasts: dense yet fine,
powerful yet weightless, already slightly textured tannin,

Pure slate spice on the nose: red and black currant, mint,
menthol and thyme. The palate shows homogeneous texture,
suppleness and fine-grained tannin in intimate liaison,
firm acid backbone, dense, warm fruit, plus cool minerality.

Raspberry, rose, mint, thyme, dried orange peel, a true firework
of scents. The palate starts off creamily and is then
characterised by the finest, velvety tannin, ripe acidity, tobacco
and elderberry aromas as well as palpable minerality
on the finish. Ready to drink! 13,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€€
92 2017 »Phyllit« Pinot Noir trocken
A seemingly “cool”, but also complex spicy nose, juniper
and mint, plus small red berries. Very juicy on the palate,
fine-grained tannin, ripe acidity, tangible mineral finish. At
the beginning of drinking maturity, but still has many years
ahead of it. 12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€
