We simply cannot remember ever having
awarded a 94-point-score to a
Frühburgunder (aka Pinot Noir Précoce)
from the Pfalz. The one presented by Katrin
Wind from the 2018 vintage, with its brilliant
fruit and finely polished tannins, deserves the accolade.
We are also mightily impressed by the
tension-laden Riesling from the Kalmit site, vinified
in the style of natural wine. This winemaker
is increasingly courageous and uncompromising
– but utterly sensitive at the same time. And her
magnificent range of wines moves between these
two poles. We also have to draw your attention
to the honest and precise “NackteRiesling”.

Riesling trocken
Apple and a touch of cider, fresh bay leaf, a hint of smoke. The
athletic body shows bright lemon juiciness, is dense and rich
in extract, fresh and tension-filled. There are phenolic layers
and a mineral foundation. Bold in the style of a skilfully interpreted
natural wine. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
cherry, superb acidity, the tannins are finely extracted and

Densely intricate nose with notes of apple, mirabelle plum
and citrus fruit, also darker notes, toasted aromas and juniper
berry. On the palate there is good tension and density, the
acidity is ripe and well integrated, citrus notes again. Good
balance, pronounced minerality. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
90 2019 »Fumé« Sauvignon Blanc trocken
No overt Sauvignon nose, delicate yellow fruit, yellow gooseberry,
a touch of mango and wood spice, also nutmeg. On the
palate there is sensitively woven wood, lean and compact
stature, spiciness and balanced acid structure. Well balanced
- understands Pfalz dialect. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Blueberries and cherries on the nose, fine herbs and wood
spice. On the palate juicy and with good extract and good
concentration. Bundled, very precise brilliant fruit, sour
91 2019 »NackteRiesling« trocken
Herbal nose with apple, stone fruit and apple peel, a little
sesame. Lean and tightly built, it only goes in one direction:
forward. Precise acid vein, fine citrus fruit, mineral, unadulterated,
without levelling sweetness. Bare and beautiful.
