This Weingut, resulting from the merging
in 2018 of two estates, “Gerlachs
Mühle’’ and “von Schleinitz” presented
the second vintage of this new venture. We like
how finely chiselled the fruit is – this goes particularly
for the Rieslings which really show
the variety’s aromatic potential with great precision
– and in the case of the single-site wine
from the Uhlen, this is augmented by mineral
savouriness. On the palate, these wines show
the sort of lovely silkiness that simply make
the distinction between “trocken” (dry) and
“halbtrocken” (medium dry) redundant. Absolutely
compelling!
91 2019 Kobern Uhlen Riesling
Balsamic notes, more lime than slate? Ripe but not overripe
candied yellow fruit, apricot and pineapple. Finely textured
on the palate, silky and supple, round flowing sweetness
seamlessly connected to the ripe acidity. Offers substance
and texture. 12 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

89 2019 »Apollo« Riesling
Fresh and citrusy on the nose, also some herbs and a hint of
apricot, even sultana. Poised and broad on the palate, silky
phenolics, vivid sweetness, mild acidity and a slight botrytis
creaminess concluded with slate peppery notes.

89 2019 Grauburgunder
Chestnut puree, wild berries, Pinot berries and yeasty scents.
Sweet onset of ripe acidity, full-bodied and round with good
substance on the midpalate and in the transition to the finish.
Quite a full-bodied varietal expression with lively sweetness
on the palate. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
89 2019 Spätburgunder Rosé trocken
Salmon pink with orange reflections. On the nose apple peel
tea, strawberry and a hint of peppery aromas. Strong body,
some sweetness, ripe acidity with a hint of tannins. Medium
intensity and length of the Pinot-typical fruit, plus a mineral
undertone. 11,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
89 2019 »Nitor« Riesling trocken
Beautiful clarity on the nose, vine peach and floral undertones.
Silky on the palate with delicate sweetness, rather
restrained acidity, smooth, almost creamy background and
a discreet slate-toned finish. A very round, finely composed
Riesling. 12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
