Even if Reiner Flick decided not to show
his Grosse Gewächse from the 2019
vintage, there is much to praise here.
His two Rieslings from his Erste Lagen indicate
the quality of the vintage: the Riesling
from the Hochheimer Königin Victoriaberg
scores with clear fruit, freshness and mineral
verve. In fact, the wines, like the Wicker Riesling,
our tip at a very fair price, all come across
as very present and focused. Among the noble
sweet wines, the Spätlesen show body, texture
and lively finesse. With daughter Katharina
Flick the next generation is already poised.

Riesling Erste Lage trocken
Notes of peach, pear, orange, stone, yet clear and fresh. Very
smooth texture, gentle and soft fruitiness on the palate. The
fine, citrusy acidity weaves itself discreetly into the wine.
Fine bitterness towards the back; mineral, fresh.

Riesling Erste Lage trocken
Aged in barrel, this Riesling shows a round nose of yellow-green
fruit, beautiful herbal spiciness and suppleness.
On the palate it flows easily, then gains more and more citrusy
energy and juicy concentration. Juicy until the finish.

Fresh citrus, rosemary, Amalfi lemon. Very clear and fresh.
On the palate, a force of substance and sweetness, quite restrained
acidity, only slowly gaining in pithiness over the
course of the palate. Long finish, fruit-filled, but completely
without primary ostentation. 9 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€

Riesling Spätlese Erste Lage
Clear, medium yellow. Rather restrained nose, citrus and
matchstick, apricot kernel, herbs, spice. Sophisticated. On
the palate - texture, lively acidity and well-placed sweetness,
bright fruit, complete with good structure and length. Maturity
potential. Ends on peach blossom.
