BINGEN | SCHARLACHBERG
This site is named after the colour of
its scarlet-red soils which are down to
the high iron-oxide content of the
weathered slate soils. The well-ventilated
25ha/62acre vineyard is fully south- facing
and rises from 110-200m/360-656ft with
inclines between 5% to a staggering 60%.
Seen from a geological perspective, the
Scharlachberg thus has more in common
with the Rheingau than with Rheinhessen.

NACKENHEIM | ROTHENBERG
This 16ha/39 acre site forms part of the Roter
Hang, or Red Slope. It is named after the red
soils of its iron-oxide rich rhyolite soils, a kind
of sandstone. There are also stony slate veins.
Rising from 50-150m/164-492ft, it faces
north-east, east and south-east.
