Twelve years ago Alexandra and Christian
Ehrlich founded their “Bioweinmanufaktur”
with just three rows of vines, while
converting an old house into a winery. Their Riesling
is called “Dachschaden” (which in German
stands both for a literally damaged roof and
brain damage), because each bottle sold finances
one square meter of a new roof. We tastes a range
of artisanally made wines with subtle liveliness
and fine balance – which stand out from the majority
of often somewhat rustic natural wines.
The Falstaff jury was enthused and nominated
this winemaking couple as one of our three newcomers
of the year (see page 22). Congratulations!

Ripe apricot in the complex nose, also in dried form, apple
peel, herbs, spices, coriander seed, caraway and brioche.
Powerfully structured on the palate with good extract and
density, grip, phenolically charged. Still youthful, clear profile.
13 Vol.-%. crowncap, €€€
dark aromas of juniper berries, dried fruit, dried apricot and
green banana. Powerfully structured on the palate with good
extract and a layer of fine phenolics and buttery notes reappear.

Butter and smoke on the nose, herbs, apricot and also caraway.
Thre is a soft foundation on the palate, juicy and creamy,
but also spicy and peppery, the fine acidity is well integrated,
well balanced, has power, but is elegantly staged. Good

Ripe gooseberry and pepper on the nose, also some mango
and pear, as well as herbs. Shows suppleness and power as
well as tension on the palate, good volume and well-integrated
acidity and herbal and peppery tomes. Nicely balanced,
medium complexity. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Buttery and peppery on the nose, white pepper, smoky notes,

Juicy Reine Claude plums on the nose, almost overripe,
herbal, spice and some mint. On the palate phenolic and
with a firm structure, the acidity is well integrated, also
the fruit shows itself clearly, juicy and good extract.Good
