The wines presented this year by Christian
Nett and his team are modern and
intense. Both red wines, made from the
locally unusual varieties Cabernet Franc and
Lagrein, are experimental. Evidently both
these migrants (Cabernet Franc is at home in
the Loire Valley, Lagrein in Alto Adige) are
about to put down proper roots in the Pfalz: so
ripe, so absolutely fruit-driven on the palate.
We were also taken with the Sauvignon Blanc,
part of the top premium series “Avantgarde” –
with its full-bodied, almost primal force it demands
proper bottle age. Eventually evolving
into aromatic fireworks!

Smoky wood and reductive varietal fruit; grapefruit, blackcurrant.
Intense palate with smooth foundations, firm but
polished acid backbone. A very taut, dense, salty Sauvignon
Blanc made for bottle ageing. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Discreet wood, tangerine and orange peel aromas. A robust
body, filled to the brim with extract. Full-bodied with a soft
base, pronounced acidity, dense and astonishingly balanced.
Intensely mineral, a pithy Pinot Blanc.

91 2018 »Avantgarde« Lagrein trocken
Sour cherry on the nose alongside herbs and a very delicate
wood spice; intense and fruity. On the palate extract-rich, a
rich dose of finely grained tannins, sweet fruit, well-supporting
ripe acidity, all very dense but without austerity. Has good
potential. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
90 2018 »Edition« Cabernet Franc trocken
Blackcurrant, bitter almond, elderberry, very restrained.
The palate shows discreetly toasty wood notes, fine tannins,
creamy background, lively acidity with nice juiciness on the
finish. Fruit-driven and accessible from really ripe grapes.

90 2019 »Nettswerk« Chardonnay trocken
Golden yellow with greenish reflections. Lush aroma: asparagus,
sultana, some wood. Homogeneous and powerful
on the palate; slightly tangy, lively acidity, powerful body,
integrated alcohol, still compact on the finish. Likely to
mature to great opulence. 14 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
