Rainer Wachtstetter shows a rare talent
for Lemberger. His entry-level wine “Felix”
already is a plea for this variety and
merits special recommendation. His Grosses
Gewächs from the Spitzenberg is densely-woven
and delicious. But this winemaker – who farms
20 hectares of vines on the south-facing slopes of
the Heuchelberg and belongs to the winemaking
ensemle “Junges Schwaben” – also know how
to make Riesling, Rieslaner or Trollinger. The
family also runs the “Adler” inn – dining there is
like time travel to an epoch of Swabian hostelry
culture that by now has almost disappeared.

Multi-layered nose with stone fruit, apple, fine smoke, apricot
and flowers. On the palate, a powerful structure builds up
with good extract and volume, spicy and with good density.
A rather structured Riesling that will continue to develop.

Clear, pale honey yellow hues. Candied fruit aroma, lemon,
grapefruit, apricot and a hint of spice. Delicate flowers, orange
blossom with a lively sweetness on the palate, held together
by vivid acidity with peach juice and orange zest
notes. Balanced and well-composed. 9,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

The dark fruit, black cherry and blackberry, is embraced by
herbs and smoke. Densely-woven and consistent on the palate
with high qualitative ripe tannins, combined with spice
and elegance. Delicate and lively despite all the concentration.

Hohenberg Lemberger trocken
Concentrated fragrance of blackberry and mulberry, strong
toasted aromas and smoked meat. Shows power, extract and
good density on the palate, still marked by barrique ageing,
juice, spice and texture. Good length and consistency. A Lemberger
with a long life expectancy. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Vivid blackberry and black cherry scents, toasty aromas,
charcoal, herbs and black pepper. Shows substance and
concentration on the palate, but also pure fruit, spiciness
