Martin Messmer is now alone at the
helm of the estate after Gregor Messmer
stepped down just before the
2019 harvest.Together with manager Jonas
Bosch and cellar master Bernd Henninge, he
presented an excellent range of wines. Their
Riesling from the Burrweiler Schäwer site presents
a flickering mineral savouriness that will
wow connoisseurs. But we also want to draw
your attention to the fact that both estate and
village wines already offer marked reliability.
Achieving such a series of 90-point scores is
not something you see every day. Bravo!
93 2019 Burrweiler Schäwer Riesling GG
Slightly yeasty on the nose but also marked by a flinty slate
spiciness. In addition, subtle late harvest fruit aromas from
orange to mirabelle plum. Dry phenolics on the palate, medium
weight in substance. A Riesling with volume and fire,
poised in tone. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Im Goldenen Jost Weissburgunder GG
White flowers on the nose, almond, apricot, citrus and apple.
Strong texture on the palate, ripe and grippy acidity, fine salinity,
well balanced. Has presence but also suppleness and
spiciness, dense and consistent - has character.

Riesling Erste Lage trocken
Intense smoky nose, honey and beeswax, then spring scents
of lilac and meadow flowers. Juicy and fresh on the palate,
fine, slightly tart acidity that positively stimulates the appetite.
Intense finish with delicate astringency.

Initially very restrained nose, a tentative scent of hay, a little
smoke then orange blossom enters the glass. Initially on the
palate there’s a cool freshness with a delicate creaminess,
notes of coconut and lemon zest, also wet pebbles. Long
mineral finish. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
