Sasbachwalden sits on the edge of the
cool Black Forest. In order for viticulture
to be viable here, it takes steep
slopes on the one hand and diligent growers
on the other. Both can be found at the cooperative
“Alde Gott”. They make wines which derive
plump fruit from the granitic soils, accompanied
by quite some power. Grauburgunder,
for instance, can clock up 15% alcohol. However,
they also know how to balance this sheer
force. There is, after all, a love for hearty food
in the Black Forest and the winters are long.

im Eichenfass gereift
Strong golden yellow in colour. Luscious candied fruit
scents, wood, cassata, rhubarb and very ripe Charentais melon.
Massive on the palate, some wood tannins and already
present toasted woody flavours, concentrated acidity, plump
body, strong alcohol. Solidly composed.

Strong use of wood, restrained berry scents and pronounced
nutty aromas. Viscous on the palate, very plump, ripe acidity,
quite round and silky-textured. All components seem seamlessly
merged, even the alcohol is integrated - a charmer.

Sour cherry and plum jam, initial notes of maturity followed
by redcurrants, dried tomato, malt and discreet caramel
notes from the wood. Impressive on the palate, almost oily.
On top grainy tannins with some resilience, rather mild acidity,
still compact in the finish. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Spätlese trocken
Dark berry, beetroot, and buttery notes. Very juicy on the palate,
extracted tannins, fulfils the Spätlese attributes with
volume, fruit emphasis and suppleness. Tactile mineral perceptions
and silky tannins complement each other.

Red gooseberry on the nose with slight peppery hints, peppermint
and some mineral undertones. Balanced on the
palate, medium weight in alcohol, silky texture with delicate
