It was not until 2016 that Yvonne and
Martin Hochdörffer took over Weingut
Franz Hahn. Since Martin Hochdörffer
wants to focus entirely on winemaking, all the
grapes are bought in. We can see Hochdörffer’s
spirit of experimentation in the range of wines
he presented this year. He skilfully combines
maturation in wood and stainless steel. His
Veltliner “Premium’’ shows the variety’s DNA
and yet has Pfalz character. His combination
of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Blanc is unusual.
This is a fairly priced range of wine
which should also prove an interesting hunting
ground for a sommelier.

Ripe fruit on the nose, mango and papaya, honeydew melon,
toasted aromas. Ripe fruit and sweetness on the palate, accompanied
by ripe acidity, full bodied in the style of a classic
Spätlese, but slender in structure. Fine phenolics, balanced.

Ripe peach and apricot on the nose, along with notes from
wood ageing, smoke and fine toasted aromas. Juicy and
sweet on the palate, again notes from wood ageing which
also shows in the firm structure. Presence of acidity makes it
interesting to drink. 12,7 Vol.-%. screwcap, €

Blueberry and blackcurrant on the nose, wood spice, fine
toasty aromas. On the palate there is real freshness and vivid
acidity in a compactly built body. The tannins are ripe and
show potential for further ageing - will evolve.

Delicate light green shimmers in the glass. The nose smells
of hay and white peach with slight hints of petrol. On the palate
a crunchy acidity pairs with delicate sweetness, very refreshing

Deep yellow. Ripe citrus fruit on the nose, also yellow flowers.
Juicy and spicy on the palate with a lean and firm structure.
Intense and yellow-fruited, a dash of sweetness, generous
and structured, shows the characteristics of the grape
