Michael Schroth’s wine style, aiming
for both ripeness and substance, has
its basis in the vineyard: for the premium
wines he reduces the yield of his vines,
rooting in limestone soils, down to 20-30 hectolitres
per hectare. The wines stay on their
lees for an extended period and need time to
unfold completely. The concentrated and limestone-spiced
Riesling Goldberg from the 2017
vintage slowly starts showing its profile. The
“Reserve” Spätburgunder from 2017 still
comes across as youthful. Clearly, patience
will be rewarded here.

Deep yellow. On the nose honeydew melon, caramelised
nuts, pineapple and mango - a lush fruit bouquet. Powerful
structure on the palate, concentrated, ripe acidity, spiciness.
Combines opulence with mineral polish, rich in all aspects.

tannins. Still a little astringent, has the potential to develop

Grauburgunder trocken
Deep colour. Concentrated on the nose, honeycomb, ripe
pear and candied walnuts, smoky notes, spice. Soft and velvety
on the palate with lots of texture as well as juice. Mild
acidity, wraps its opulence in suppleness. Young, good potential.

Spätburgunder trocken unfiltriert
Rich bouquet with black cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry,
toasted aromas, tobacco, cedar and undergrowth. Full bodied
on the palate with lots of substance, ripe fruit and spice,
strong and distinctive tannins of good quality. Still has something
up its sleeve. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Spätburgunder trocken unfiltriert
Concentrated nose of black cherry, blackberry and rosehip,
vivid wood spice and smoked bacon. Powerful and vivid on the

Deep yellow. Pineapple, apricot and pear, caramelised almonds,
spicy notes. On the palate, juicy and with texture,
strong stature, ripe fruit and acidity, good extract and lots
