Down to earth, no-frills, straight up. This
is how Weingut Hans Bausch describes
itself. What we can add: when you read
Bausch on the label, there is 100% Bausch in
the bottle. This is honest winemaking craft,
without big experimentation or avant-gardist
ambitions. Among the dry wines, it is the well
balanced Grosses Gewächs from the Engelmannsberg
site that is very convincing. Among
the residual sweet wines, the substantial
Spätlese from the Wisselbrunnen site shows
everything that the 2019 vintage made possible.
We must note that within a Rheingau context,
the prices are incredibly reasonable.

The "Rheingau Grosse Gewächs"" has a lot to offer: powerful
aroma of ripe apricot and mirabelle plum. On the palate good
substance and also density, lots of juice and texture,
well-balanced and with fine mineral spice. Consistent with

flowers and caramel. Soft and supple opening with
sweet fruit and restrained acidity; coherent and well rounded,
fine spice provides further interest.

ripe yellow apple and some white nougat. Juicy and with ripe

Apple and apricot kernel in the powerful aroma, floral
notes and some leafy green hints. Juicy, with texture on
the palate, the noticeable residual sweetness is accompanied
by a ripe acidity, nice spiciness, mineral hints, good
substance. A well-executed classic.
