The estate of Kilian Graf von Bentzel-Sturmfeder
offers large helpings of
Württemberg wine history. Founded in
1396 by the noble Killian Graf von Friedrich
Sturmfeder, this winery at the foot of the Schozacher
Roter Berg looks back on more than
620 years of viticulture. The Schozacher Roter
Berg site with its heavy loam and Keuper
(marl) soils is a monopole. It brings forth
wines of structure and potential – but this year,
sadly, only the Riesling from this site was presented.
This wine, in spite of its restrained nature,
should not be underestimated.

Subtle scents of meadow herbs, light hawthorn and absence
of any distinct overpowering primary fruit aromas. White
pepper on the palate, also here restrained fruit notes with
more emphasis on the substance. A really dry wine with noticeable
strength, requiring a good food accompaniment.

On the nose typical for the variety, with scents of gooseberry
and cassis. On the palate, nice mousse, very ripe
with pronounced fruit notes like white currants. Not really
lively, but with a baroque-like structure and rococo
fruit. It will encourage creativity in the kitchen.

88 2018 »Grande Etoile« trocken
Intense yellow colour. Nose clearly marked by wood and a
hint of delicate vanilla. On the palate coconut macaroons,
hints of lactic notes, followed by fine fruit of pineapple and
pear, but a little bit too alcohol-influence in the finish. Difficult
at the moment, wait and see. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
88 2017 Spätburgunder *** trocken
Almost a little bit washed out in colour. Scents of dried fig,
strawberry, clove and quite noticeable alcohol. On the palate
enormous spiciness, lots of pepper and elderberry notes. A
90 2017 Cabernet Dorsa trocken
Deep purple hues in the glass. Black berry fruit scents on
the nose, along with bay leaf and juniper. On the palate, the
wine impresses with its very calm flow. More fruit than
spice with blackcurrant jelly and blackberry nuances and a
well-captured ripeness. 13 Vol.-%, cork, €€
