This longstanding Iphofen estate maintains
its cruising altitude – and, to
maintain this metaphor – the provisions
on board are simply excellent. We just
could not agree on what we liked best: the
classic single-site wines in Bocksbeutel or the
cheekier “Sister.Act” wines, made by Andrea
and Lena Wirsching with spontaneous ferments.
Their “Erste Lagen” also come with a
particularly emphatic recommendation this
year: they offer great terroir at a mid-level
price and can be drunk earlier than their great
brothers and sisters.

Pear and apple on the nose in a herbal ambience, also some
black tea and apricot. On the palate there is a powerful and
clearly defined texture, stable acid structure. Enough substance
and density to age well, mineral underpinning, also

Fine fragrance of acacia, cedar, lime and madarine peel, complemented
by a slightly smoky note on the palate. Soft texture,
dense medium body, recognisable phenolics, lively acidity and
a long finish. A wine with potential. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Floral and almost perfumed undertones, lavender, musk,
yeast, passion fruit. Juicy onset, loosely-knit phenolics, acidity
gaining intensity on the palate, strong chalky mineral
background. Has quite some power, but also a future.

Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese
Medium golden yellow. Elegant nose of fermented apricot,
fig and very ripe apple. Full-bodied on the palate with very
fine flavours of lemon balm, mirabelle plum and honey. Precise
sweetness-acidity interplay and a very significant finish.

Elegant nose with scents of lemon, lime, orange peel and
chamomile. On the palate there is a slight spritzy attack,
lively acidity that balances the alcohol well, with salty
notes and trenchant minerality on the finish.
