There are wines that you simply want to
drink right now with good food, just
because they prompt a natural, irresistible,
and involuntary swallowing reflex. The
Grauburgunder “Gneis” by Weingut Frey is
just such a wine, it is also our Falstaff-Tip. It
serves as a foundation for a sophisticated
range with powerful, compelling and really
mineral Pinots in both white and red. The Frey
family really have dedicated themselves to this
– with a clear division of responsibilities:
While Otto Frey looks after the vines, son
Martin looks after winemaking and cellar.

Toasted hazelnuts on the nose, ripe apricot, pear and also
passion fruit with a smoky ambience. Spicy on the palate,
fine juice and texture, good extract, lots of spice, the powerful
body is infused with a ripe but active acidity. Will still develop.

pointed acidity, fine fruit and it’s finely polished. Juicy tannins
contribute to the elegant style, mineral polish, good tension
at the end. Potential. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Wood spice on the nose, fumé, also chamomile and pear, expressive
yet fine nose. Shows power, tension and spice on the
palate and a firm structure, but also elegance and freshness.
Well-balanced, skilful use of wood, mineral, long and young.

Chardonnay *** trocken
Mirabelle plums, apple and pear on the nose, yellow flowers,
fine smoke. Powerful and firmly-structured on the palate
with good density, emphatically dry, balanced acidity and a
mineral underpinning. The fine fruit contributes elegance -
at the beginning of its development. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Spätburgunder trocken
Concentrated aroma of cherry, spices like anise and fine
toasted aromas. Substantial on the palate with good extract,

palate with a ripe but lively acidity, good density and tension,
powerful construction, generously developed with elegant
