Each year, there are small but distinct advances
in the wines made by Christos C.
Theodoropoulos. The wines’ focus becomes
ever clearer, the courage to be artisanal
ever more apparent. We wine lovers are the beneficiaries
of this evolution: there is a crystal clear
rosé, a juicy but very fine “red” (from Spätburgunder
and Schwarzriesling) as well as a medium-dry
Riesling which hits that elusive nail of
maximum elegance on the head. You can get all
of this for less than EUR 10.00 per bottle: in a region
where the vines are on steep slopes and
everything has to be done by hand. You’ll only
have yourself to blame if you don’t stock up here.
89 2019 »Der Weisse« trocken
Freshly-sliced Williams pear on the nose. On the palate there
is a hint of slate-peppery hints, but overall not too complicated,
good density, firm acidic composition. A content-rich
structure for an entry-level wine, real "drinkability".

90 2019 »Der Rote« trocken
Sweet cherry, cherry stones and some slight spontaneous
fermentation notes. On the palate there is an elegant structure:
lots of juice, fine-grained tannins in a rather restrained
extracted amount, beautiful Pinot fruit. A simple Pinot without
much fuss and exactly for that reason - really noble.

89 2019 Riesling feinherb
90 2019 Rosé trocken
Pastel coloured hues. Scents of apple peel, rosehip and
plum. Juicy and fresh on the palate, sweet fruit, good density,
light almond tones on the finish. A very clear rosé, quite
accurate in its fruit, with beautiful, unaffected freshness.

92 2018 Engehöll Bernstein
Spätburgunder Barrique trocken
Gingerbread spice, Amarena cherry, blackberry and spicyslate
scents. Low sulphur. On the palate substance, grainy,
fleshy, very dense, almost massive, with sweet fruit and a
powerful body but with smooth foundations and a juicy fruit

91 2019 Riesling halbtrocken
Closed on the nose, lemon peel, smoky-mineral nuances,
seems very clear, but also still very young. On the palate
there is good extract and good tension, fresh acidity, restrained
sweetness, clear tactile minerality. Semi-dry in a
