This is the best range of wines we have
ever tasted from Weingut Eppelmann.
It substantiates all the stylistic changes
that have taken place: it is the first vintage that
siblings Corinna and Christian Eppelmann,
both still studying at Geisenheim, have made
together with their parents Simone and Timo.
The wines were fermented spontaneously and
spend extended time on lees. Riesling and
Spätburgunder are the focus, but white Pinot
varieties can also show their mettle on the
limestone soils. The conversion to organic
farming will be completed in 2021. We think
there is a whole lot more to come!
91 2019 Elsheim Bockstein Riesling trocken
Ripe yellow fruit, apricot and greengage, spicy notes, herbs,
mineral hints. Multi-layered Riesling with good complexity and
structure, well-balanced power, freshness and elegance, salty
notes. Uncompromisingly dry and young. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2019 Elsheim Blume Silvaner trocken
Pear and pumpkin on the nose, fine meadow herbs and
smoky hints. Juicy on the palate with texture, spice and ripe
acidity, salty notes on the mid palate, powerful and compact
construction, good density and consistency. A real pleasure.

91 2019 »Réserve« Chardonnay trocken
Pear and quince on the nose, green walnut, smoke and wood
aromas. Powerful and rather broad on the palate, good density
and extract, shows substance, juice, spice and a ripe, supporting
acid structure with salty notes. Youthful, but with
ageing potential. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Trockenbeerenauslese
Clear, medium yellow. On the palate dried citrus, ripe quince
and passion fruit, clear. On the palate lots of traction and texture,
sweet pear juice, spice, exotic fruits. For all its power
and presence, elegant, very balanced and with great potential.
