Here at this renowned estate in Gimmeldingen,
the seventh and eighth generation
work hand in hand – while
91-year-old grandfather Fritz Christmann is living
proof that good wine keeps you young. Steffen
Christmann is the strategist who converted
the estate to biodynamic farming twenty years
ago. Today he gives free rein to his talented
daughter Sophie, who knows just how to make
the most of it. For as long as we can remember,
the Christmann-Rieslings have stylistically been
à point – but we have never tasted a Spätburgunder
as delicious as that of the 2018 vintage. Sophie
Christmanns’s masterpiece. Compliments!

Spicy aromas, caraway, flint, bergamot. At first supple on the
palate, then phenolically textured with the utmost delicacy,
a vital vein of acidity gives juiciness and length. Slightly tactile
minerality. Lots of substance, discreetly staged.

Grapey and floral on the nose, good clarity and depth. A hint
of carbon dioxide on the tongue, lean and juicy, racy acidity,
exciting and fresh, almost electrifyingly mineral, harmonious
and completely coherent despite the powerful acid kick.

Finely woven scent of spices, cherry and herbs, blood orange
and tea. Gripping and with traction on the palate. Finely polished
tannins of high quality, showing grip and a fine vein of
acidity, elegant and vivid. Finely extracted and finely woven

Berry nose, cherry, fresh bay leaf, fine wood spice, smoky and
stony notes. Taut and compact on the palate, fine phenolic
tartness supports juicy fruit underpinned by chalky mineral

Tense and juicy on the palate, a lively acid backbone carries
the lean but expressive body, mineral-based, fresh and
light-footed with very good length. Stylish entry-level
