Schloss Saarstein sits high above the Saar
river, surrounded by its vineyards. Its
south-southwest aspect guarantees perfect
solar radiation. The grey slate warms easily
and retains the heat of the day. It is thus an
ideal soil for Riesling that makes up more than
90% of the estate’s plantings. Christian Ebert,
who is the second generation to run the estate,
presented a convincing wine range of elegant,
fine-boned and minerally-savoury Rieslings –
along with noble sweet rarities and a well-balanced
“Grosses Gewächs”. Classically good!

Riesling GG
Ripe Riesling nose with stone fruit, especially peach and
mango plus herbs and spicy slate scents. Powerful and compact
on the palate there is ripe fruit and well-integrated residual
sweetness, plus mature acidity and a mineral, slatespicy
base. Classic and beautiful. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Riesling Beerenauslese
Stony coolness on the nose, light yellow fruit, also mint and
stone dust, seems to exhibit defined scents. On the palate
there is good concentration and fine juice, precise fruit, beautifully
classic with a lively acid structure and citric freshness.
The wine has good traction with a slightly salty finish. Playful!

Riesling Auslese
Delicately bright with greenish reflections in the glass. A fine
herbal nose of fragrant white flowers with a smoky hint. On
the palate a tangy acidity with wonderfully well-balanced
and integrated sweetness. A really refreshing wine!

Riesling Kabinett
A very delicately pale and also rather closed wine, but it really
thaws on the palate. It offers delicious freshness with tingling
acidity, a finely balanced sweetness and fine peach
notes which are noticeable on the juicy finish.

Lots of vineyard and Saar countryside scents on the nose,
followed by herbs, yellow fruit, apple and slate accents. On
the palate it is juicy and spicy with slate spice nuances accompanied
by fruity notes with good balance. Shows terroir
