It is astonishing how Weingut J. Neus, under
the ownership of the Schmitz family
and the management of Lewis Schmitt, together
with cellar master Toni Frank, manages
to deliver consistent quality year on year – contributing
to the renaissance of Ingelheim as Pinot-town.
The enormous development continues:
reconstruction of the press house will
make use of gravity, new barrels are made from
local oak and a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard
was field-grafted over to Spätburgunder. The
Spätburgunders from the 2018 vintage promise
substance, complexity and finely-polished
fruit. This is Ingelheim on great form!

Still closed on the nose, yeast and wood spice, currants,
dense and with some promise. Vivid acidity on the palate
with complex layers of spice, compactly-built yet the tannins
are accessible. Complex and with great potential.

The nose is still marked by wood spice and yeast with layers
of herbs, spices, freshly crushed juniper berry and hints of
tar. On the palate there is beautiful Triassic limestone minerality
with creamy undertones, the acidity is ripe and
poised, the tannins are grippy. A youthful and talented wine.

Fine alluring nose with some smoke, elderflower, cherry and
ripe blackberry. On the palate layers of herbs and fine minerality.
All balanced by perfectly-integrated acidity on a medium
body with a very long finish. An elegant wine.

Deep aromas of blackberry, cherry, ripe cranberry and clove.
On the palate flavours of mushroom as well as a light note of

Yeasty on the nose with hints of flinty-minerality and herbal
aromas. A soft and poised palate, lots of juiciness, plump
structure, combines texture with a linear composition, finishes
round and harmonious, without imposed sweetness,
