It was in 2001 that Harald Kempf founded
his little “Bonsai” estate in Malsch with
almost two hectares of vines in the
Malscher Ölbaum site. The first variety he
planted was Sankt Laurent, followed by Pinot
Noir and Blaufränkisch. “Quality is made in
the vineyard and less is more,” Kempf says.
Manual work and artisanship are foremost in
this endeavour. In his subregion of Kraichgau,
Kempf is a known specialist for red wines, a
fact he proves impressively with his blend
“Grand Malheur” of Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch
and St. Laurent. If only every mishap, or
malheur, would provide so much pleasure.
