The journey continues”, Simone Adams
reports. “We used the Corona year of
2020 to convert our farming to biodynamics
and see this time as an opportunity to
re-think our long-term strategy, as a turning
point.” This of course means that we are curious
what future vintages will bring. The starting
point for the journey, however, is already
rock solid: the white wines from 2018 absolutely
show the advantages of this ripe vintage
without getting too powerful or broad. The Pinot
Noirs, meanwhile, have turned the 2017
into finesse – a kind of Ingelheim tradition
made in a dry style.
94 2018 »Kaliber 25« Chardonnay trocken
Yeasty on the nose with some wood and herbaceousness.
The palate has silky phenolics with a grip that builds on the
finish. Mineral, dense, great substance with a sinewy, yet not
overly austere style. Incredible finesse with a subtle power.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2018 »Kaliber 9« Weissburgunder trocken
91 2017 Ingelheim Auf dem Haun
Spätburgunder trocken
91 2017 »Kaliber 28« Spätburgunder trocken
92 2018 »White Wedding Kaliber 21«
trocken VI/PG/CH
Discreet wood. Closed fruit. Very balanced on the palate,
with juiciness and nerve, but also with suppleness and spicy
notes. Emphatically fresh on the finish, with tactile mineral
notes and a hint of phenolic astringency. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
92 2017 »Kaliber 48« Spätburgunder trocken
Complex notes of fig compote, cherry, earthy, herbaceous
with a limestone backbone. Juicy on the nose, very fine yet
tight tannin, plump structure, ripe fruit. Quite a traditional
Spätburgunder produced to a high standard.
12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2017 »Kaliber 12« Spätburgunder trocken
Delicately spicy with sweet cherry, redcurrant, mint and juniper.
The palate is surprisingly satisfying for an entry-level
wine, tightly-structured, firm acidity, but balanced with fruit
and spice. Compact finish, drinking well now, but with further
potential. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
93 2018 »Kaliber 19« Grauburgunder trocken
A light dusky pink "gris"" colour. Tight nose with notes of
berry and apple peel tisane. On the palate there is close interplay
of texture and raciness and juicy berry fruit. Lots of
tension on the palate and excellent length."
12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€
