Whoever gets hold of one of Philipp
Kuhn’s bottles knows what to expect:
clear aromas, tamed power,
expressiveness and vigour – everything in
good measure and perfect proportion. Philipp
Kuhn’s latest wines are no exception: limestone
bursts from every seam in his Saumagen
Riesling while its sibling from the Kirschgarten
sets off aromatic fireworks of fruit. His
Spätburgunders from the 2017 vintage
convince with their concentration and their
grippy, ripe tannins. Beyond Riesling and Pinot
Noir, Kuhn also knows how to impress,
for instance, with his Grauburgunder Réserve.

Limestone and reduction on the nose, candied orange and
blood orange, grapefruit. On the palate, chalky from the first
moment to the last, ripe, refined acidity, concisely concentrated
on the finish. A Riesling with the generosity that is typical
for the vineyard. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
graphite. On the palate there is good concentration and substance,
dense and with ripe, grippy tannin and fine acidity.

Riesling GG
Earthy, light balsamic notes plus some yellow fruit, lemon
balm, fresh citrus zest. Impressive on the palate, a layer of
mealy phenolics, lots of juiciness, tense acidity, limestone-spiced
finish. Still seems very young and undeveloped.

Spätburgunder GG
Closed on the nose; smoke, toasted aromas, black shoe polish,
black tea, seaweed, also tar, dark ripe fruit behind. Concentrated
and juicy with stable acidity, strong, marked tannins,
still slightly astringent. Dry, young and with real potential.

Aroma of dark cherries, cassis, herbs such as lovage and
rosemary, wood spice and smoke, roasted coffee beans,

A Pinot Gris with a nutty, spicy aroma of toasted almonds
and sage. It also has a slight Burgundy-like tone of popcorn.
On the palate the wine has a gentle but vivid acid
