The Wittmanns and their forebears have
lived in Westhofen since the 17th century
– and this experience pervades
everything this family puts its hands to. In this
thoroughly strong range of wines that Philipp
Wittmann and his wife Eva have presented,
the Rieslings simply trump everything else.
Even the village wines “aus Ersten Lagen” (“1
G”) possess extreme substance and character
– and this continues all the way to the masterly
Grosses Gewächs from the Morstein – one
of Germany’s best Rieslings of this vintage.

Morstein shows itself in an impressively nuanced way: At first
a fine and restrained nose, yet precise. On the palate, slender,
silky and yet of impressive intensity. Chiselled acidity, tightly
and finely-woven, vivid and yet effervescent.

Riesling GG
Highly complex and aromatic nose showcasing yellow fruit,
spice and savouriness. The palate opens with superbly balanced
juicy acidity, lots of extract and high density. Phenolic,
spicy and layered peppery notes. Masterly balance.

Dense enticing aromas of yellow fruit and smoky, spicy notes,
still a touch closed. Lean and tightly-built with ripe, bright
acidity and great intensity. Dense and phenolic texture, mineral
and complex. Needs time to evolve. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Multi-layered aromas of herbs and apples, joined by spices
and yellow fruit and hints of cumin. Intense palate with good
balance and coherence, juicy, textural with highly-integrated
phenolics. Concentrated, promising, great potential.
