Sekt is Mark Barth’s enduring passion. As
a member of the VDP’s steering committee
on Sekt he was instrumental in creating
their Sekt statute. In the past year, he also
officially took over the Wein- and Sektgut in
Eltville-Hattenheim which he now runs with
his wife Christine. For us, his top wines were
the two brut nature Sekts from the Hattenheimer
Schützenhaus. The only wine that
trumps these two is the Riesling TBA from
2010 – it captured us with its electrifying acidity
and silky charm. Excellent!

Riesling brut nature
Sparkling bright in the glasss, fine cool nose of white berries,
also minerality, still fresh on the nose. Further fine freshness
on the palate with delicate, elegant ripe tones, poised by the
balanced mousse. Very well done and very special!

creamy on the palate, a backbone of electrifying acidity,
enormously fresh, very young on the palate. Traditional
Rheingau at its best. 8 Vol.-%, glass, €€€€

Riesling brut nature
Sunny yellow in the glasss with beautiful reflections, the typical
Riesling scent on the nose and the elegant kerosene
nose, very fine. More tart on the palate than the Schützenhaus,
in 2014, - rather the little brother. Not quite as elegant,
but finely salty and smoky. 12,5 Vol.-%, DIAM, €€€€

Delicate scent of honey, mirabelle plums, sour cherries,
white flowers and also lilac. On the palate juicy with firm
acidity, but also rich sweetness, tight construction, smoky
flint notes, mineral tinge, pleasant astringency, elegant and
long finish. 12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€€

Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese
Golden in colour, ripe spicy aroma, dried apples, cardamom,
chamomile, dried orange peel, allspice, apricot. Silky and

Delicate light green reflections in the glass. Cool, fragrant
nose with aromas of yellow and citrus fruit. Fresh, with texture
on the palate, delicate aromas of white berries and
citrus fruits, nice, dry, yet juicy acidity with a crunchy finish.
