Weingut Mohr took another decisive
step forward with the 2019
vintage: the wines this organically
certified estate made are truly impressive!
Manager and cellar master Jochen Neher presents
squeaky clean, wonderfully balanced
Rieslings that absolutely show their provenance.
His two Grosse Gewächse from the
Krone and Bodental-Steinberg sites are grippy
and pervaded with fine minerality. The profound
Riesling “34” from a 1934-planted parcel
in the Schlossberg site is even more compelling.
If Jochen Neher can maintain this cruising
altitude his third star is well within reach.
93 2019 »34« Lorch Schlossberg Riesling tr.
Finely-scented: apricot and orange blossom on the nose. On
the palate there is pleasant acidity and obvious spicy aromas
of ripe stone fruit and orange peel. Shows good balance. The
finish is slightly herbaceous, pleasing and finely resonant.
13 Vol.-%, glass, €€€
added interest. The ripe fruit remains on the palate for a long
time. Appealing Ortsriesling. 13 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
88 2019 Riesling trocken
92 2019 »Rheingau Grosses Gewächs« Lorch
Krone Riesling trocken
White flowers, pepper and white mushroom on the nose. On
the palate there is fine acidity that combines wonderfully
with the fresh, tart aromas. Slate minerality makes the wine
pleasantly long and smooth. Finely balanced, not overt, elegant.
13 Vol.-%, glass, €€€
91 2019 »Grosses Gewächs« Lorch
Bodental-Steinberg Riesling trocken
Intense on the nose with tones of very ripe pineapple. Well-integrated
and animating acidity that carries the ripe fruit flavours
well. Fine minerality with a slightly peppery finish. Accessible
Grosses Gewächs that is opening up nicely.
13 Vol.-%, glass, €€€
89 2019 Lorch Riesling trocken
Vivid nose of fresh pineapple and almond blossom, also yellow
stone fruit, peach. Compactly built on the palate, moderate
acidity and a dash of sweetness, fine minerality gives
90 2019 »Alte Reben« Riesling trocken
Vivid and animating nose with tones of ripe pineapple and
fresh mango. On the palate, ripe fruit aromas are beautifully
supported by the vivid and balanced acidity. The old
vines bring complexity and contribute to the character.
12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
