Reiner Baumann’s start in viticulture
was in 2010 when he planted one and
half hectares of vines on the
Schriesheimer Madonnenberg in the subregion
of the Badische Bergstrasse. At present, he
also cultivates vineyards in Deidesheim in the
Pfalz, not least because the wines are made
with the support of Weingut von Winning. The
dry white wines are characterised by their
maturation in wood and, just like the Riesling
and Sauvignon Blanc from the Madonnenberg,
show good potential. Likewise, the Pinot
Noir from the same site shows body and minerality.
A very promising debut!

Riesling trocken
The spicy nose shows notes of wood ageing, toasty aromas,
quince peel and stone fruit. On the palate there is an obvious
acid structure, also salty undertones, juicy, with good substance
and also density. No superficial charm, shows its provenance.

On the palate fine acidity and mouth-filling sweetness, ripe
citrus fruits, peach juice, apricot jelly, good balance and nice

Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Powerful and spicy nose of ripe mango and cassis, plus wood
aromas, lots of spice. On the palate juicy and with ripe acidity,
citric notes, emphatically dry, some salt, powerful and
consistent construction, multi-layered and with good substance.
Young with potential. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Pinot Noir trocken
Ripe black cherries on the nose, candied orange and lemon
peel, black olives, smoke and juniper berry. Powerful. On the
palate there is good volume and substance, well correlating
acidity providing balance, ripe and strong tannins, mineral
underpinning - nice. 14,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2019 Deidesheim Mäushöhle Riesling
On the nose dried fruits, candied orange peel, lime peel, papaya,
mango, underlaid with herbs, expansive and animating.
90 2019 »Jäger« Schriesheim
Madonnenberg Riesling trocken
Spicy and herbal nose, toasty aromas, lime and apricot, apple
peel, and also bread crust. On the palate there is apple
and some lemon juice, guava, powerfully-built with clear
and firm contours. Juicy and with a fine phenolic layer,
good length. 13,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
