La realización de unverbo de comunicación o pensamiento en Pasado (el llamado tradicionalmente estilo indirecto)es la forma más habitual de establecer un dominio temporal de pasado, aunque no la única:(1) for SERC funded students, 56 per cent of conversion and 48 per cent of specialist studentswould be in or about to start work at the end of their courses(2) one half of the students commenced employment at the end of their courses; a further 8 percent had received a job offer and would be starting work shortly(3) It was assumed that the investment return would be 9% per annum, that salary increases wouldaverage 7% per annum and that present and future pensions would increase at the rate of 4%per annum.(4) saying he would work to promote ties with Syria(5) that if there was not an honourable settlement, that would “explode the whole region”(6) for mama told me -only a few days ago, it was- that it would be mine one day(7) You prayed, just as you said you would(8) I didn’t I didn’t know if you’d be coming or notEn estos ejemplos es fácil ver que el Condicional no es más que un sustituto del Futuro endominios temporales de pasado, por lo que su uso está determinado por los mismos factoresque provocan el empleo de éste en dominios temporales de presente.281
