Replacing an EI Circuit Pack—Unduplicated PNC<br />

WARNING: Replacing<br />

not power down a Switch Node carrier to replace a circuit pack.<br />

a Switch Node Interface, Switch Node Clock, Expansion Interface, or<br />

DS1 Converter circuit pack in a st<strong>and</strong>ard-, duplex-, or high-reliability system<br />

disrupts service. This service effect can range from an outage of a single PN to<br />

an outage of the entire system.<br />

Step Action Explanation / Caution<br />

1. Enter busyout board location. location = cabinet-carrier-slot<br />

location of the circuit pack to be<br />

replaced.<br />

2. Replace the circuit pack.<br />

3. Wait for the circuit pack to reset. Red <strong>and</strong> green LEDs light <strong>and</strong> then<br />

go out. If the red LED remains lit,<br />

see the previous note under<br />

Expansion Interface LEDs.<br />

4. Enter release board location. CAUTION: Do not busyout any EI<br />

circuit packs after this point.<br />

5. Enter <strong>test</strong> alarms long clear for<br />

category exp-intf.<br />

6. Wait 5 minutes for SNI-BD, FIBER-LK, <strong>and</strong><br />

DS1C-BD alarms to clear, or enter clear<br />

firmware-counters a-pnc.<br />

Replacing an EI Circuit Pack— Duplicated PNC<br />

On a system with duplicated PNC, synchronization may be provided over a combination of<br />

active <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>by components. This condition is indicated by an OFF-BOARD WARNING<br />

alarm against TDM-CLK with Error Type 2305. Repairs to st<strong>and</strong>by PNC in this state may disrupt<br />

service. Otherwise, if the active PNC is functional, replacement of a st<strong>and</strong>by component will not<br />

disrupt service.<br />

Step Action Explanation / Caution<br />

1. Enter status pnc. Verify that the component to be replaced<br />

is on the st<strong>and</strong>by PNC.<br />
