Recycle carrier<br />

POW-SUP (Power Supply)<br />

The recycle carrier comm<strong>and</strong> is useful for three different troubleshooting actions:<br />

Note: When<br />

● To verify that a redundant power supply can carry the full load. This is done by entering<br />

recycle carrier location with the slot number of the power supply that is to be<br />

momentarily shut down.<br />

Each power supply monitors the voltage on the backplane <strong>and</strong> not the voltages from the<br />

power supply itself. Therefore, when redundant power supplies are present, the only way<br />

to check the voltages from each power supply is to use the recycle power supply<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> with the slot number chosen to force the other power supply to be <strong>test</strong>ed when it<br />

is the only supply on the backplane.<br />

● To momentarily shut the power off for an entire carrier that is not a control carrier to force<br />

all the boards in the carrier to be power cycled. This is done by entering recycle<br />

carrier location.<br />

Note:<br />

redundant power supplies are present, this <strong>test</strong> may generate <strong>error</strong> log<br />

entries for either power supply in the carrier.<br />

● To momentarily shut the power off for a control carrier to force the EPN to go down <strong>and</strong><br />

back up with a port network COLD restart. This is done by entering recycle carrier<br />

location override for a G650 carrier with an active IPSI.<br />

For the case where duplicate IPSIs are present in a port network, the set ipserver<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> can be used to put an IPSI in the st<strong>and</strong>by mode, so that a recycle of the carrier<br />

containing that IPSI will not cause a reset of the EPN.<br />

The following <strong>test</strong> results may be obtained from the recycle carrier comm<strong>and</strong>:<br />

1 Output voltages for the power supply under <strong>test</strong> are out of tolerance after the<br />

power was restored.<br />

2 When redundant power supplies are present, the output voltages for the other<br />

power supply are out of tolerance after the power was restored.<br />

16 When redundant power supplies are present, <strong>and</strong> the slot number is specified,<br />

the output voltages for the other power supply are out of tolerance during the<br />

time that power supply is the only power supply providing power.<br />

If it is acceptable to disrupt service temporarily, remove the good power supply<br />

<strong>and</strong> run <strong>test</strong> board for the other power supply to verify that it has failed.<br />

Note:<br />

is unlikely that failure <strong>codes</strong> 1 or 2 will occur when redundant power supplies<br />

are present, because each power supply is measuring the backplane voltage<br />

instead of the power supply voltage.<br />
