PKT-BUS (Packet Bus)<br />

1. P is the port-network number indicated in the PORT field from the Alarm or Error Log.<br />

The packet bus consists of a single bus, <strong>and</strong> one such bus appears in each port network. The<br />

packet bus in each port network is physically independent from those in other port networks, so<br />

each port network has a separate PKT-BUS MO. This bus supports the following types of<br />

connections:<br />

● Logical control links between the server <strong>and</strong> every PN<br />

● ISDN-BRI D-channel transport (signaling)<br />

● ASAI D-channel transport (signaling)<br />

● ISDN-PRI D-channel (signaling)<br />

● System Access Ports<br />

The TN2312AP IPSI circuit pack’s Packet Interface circuit provides an interface to the packet<br />

bus for the server. Packet bus <strong>test</strong>ing depends on the TN771D Maintenance/Test circuit pack.<br />

Packet Bus <strong>test</strong>s will abort if the TN771D circuit pack is not inserted in the port network.<br />

The interactions between the packet bus <strong>and</strong> the circuit packs that use the bus are complex.<br />

Circuit pack failures can alarm the packet bus, while packet bus faults can alarm or interrupt<br />

service to one or more circuit packs <strong>and</strong> their ports <strong>and</strong> endpoints. The Isolating <strong>and</strong> repairing<br />

packet-bus faults section in Maintenance Procedures for <strong>Avaya</strong> Aura Communication<br />

Manager, Media Gateways <strong>and</strong> Servers (03-300432) describes packet bus maintenance <strong>and</strong><br />

interactions with circuit packs. That section should be referenced for all troubleshooting <strong>and</strong><br />

repairs. The flowchart is the normal starting point for experienced technicians.<br />

This section on the PKT-BUS MO is limited to a description of the Error <strong>and</strong> Alarm Log entries<br />

<strong>and</strong> the <strong>test</strong> sequence for the packet bus. The following list summarizes some of the important<br />

points to consider when working with the packet bus.<br />

● The Maintenance/Test circuit pack (TN771D) is a critical tool for isolating packet bus faults.<br />

This circuit pack resides in each port network of a critical-reliability system (duplicated<br />

servers <strong>and</strong> PNC). If a TN771D is absent, one must be taken to the customer site to allow<br />

for proper fault isolation. Isolating <strong>and</strong> repairing packet-bus faults in Maintenance<br />

Procedures for <strong>Avaya</strong> Aura Communication Manager, Media Gateways <strong>and</strong> Servers<br />

(03-300432) describes the Packet Bus <strong>test</strong>ing facilities of the TN771D <strong>and</strong> when one must<br />

be taken to the customer site.<br />
